03/77 - The Bees Knees are the first band to play PD's


 

 

10/77 - Dallas Jazz Orchestra plays to full house, first time.
             Galen Jeter and Burt Parks on horns.

10/78 - Anson & the Rockets were formed (played nearly every
             Monday night for 10 years).

02/79 - Steve Fromholz begins a long and Illustrious relationship
             with Poor David's Pub.

Fall of '79 - Brave Combo performs first Dallas gig.

07/80 - Uncle Walt's Band first pdp performance

09/80 - Shake Russell & Dana Cooper Band begin long & illustrious
             career at Poor David's. John Vandiver opens.

 

03/83 - Closing blowout party at 2900 McKinney Ave. location.  Employees missing in action,
later discovered in restrooms...

Poor David's Pub relocates to 1924 Greenville Ave.


3/17 Tinkers Dam sell out Thursday.
3/18
Jerry Jeff Walker sells out two shows Friday.
3/19 John Hartford sells out two shows Saturday.

 

06/83 - Doc Watson & Merle play first performance at the club.

12/83 - Lyle Lovett & Robert Earl Keen, Jr. are CO-BILLED
             A whopping 41 people arrived to pay a $4 cover.

02/84 - Mary Travers (of Peter, Paul & Mary) plays Poor David's.

10/84 - Sara Hickman performs first public performance at
            a night club. Auditions in beautiful blue, low-cut dress!

10/84 - Eric Clapton visits the club to see friend Paul Butterfield;
             He has to leave before he can sit in because he is drawing
             too much attention away from Paul.

11/84 - Robert Cray premiers in Dallas at PD's. The Rockets open.

02/85 - Los Lobos sell out (and I mean, out!) 2 shows in winter storm
             at 14 degrees. Ice formed inside windows. 2nd show
             ticket holders braved the weather for best seats!

02/85 - John Lee Hooker plays at Poor David's.

 

05/85 - Lyle Lovett performs as a trio. Shortly therafter, "Pontiac"
             crosses over into mainstrean radio. Lyle continues to mention
             Poor David's at larger venues in Dallas.

12/85 - Jerry Jeff Walker plays last show for Poor David's.
             Does Christmas show wearing Santa Claus hat.

10/86 - Robert Hunter, songwriter for the Grateful Dead, sells out
              two shows.

10/86 - Nanci Griffith performs last show at Poor David's

11/86 - Leon Redbone plays Poor David's. Quirky and relaxed

 

05/87 - LYLE lOVETT last played for PD's, then the Pontiac album roared
          

11/89 - Willis Alan Ramsey sells out two shows on Friday and
             Saturday - up against The Rolling Stones at Cotton Bowl.

11/89 - The original Dixie Chicks debut in the nightclub world
             opening for Allen Damron

03/92 - Michael Nesmith of The Monkees plays the club.

03/96 - Arlo Guthrie packs the club. One of Poor David's TOP 10 shows

03/97 - The Dixie Chicks play 16th and final Poor David's show
              with Natalie Maines as new lead singer.

3/30/2012 - Bowley and Wilson final reunion, THE LAST ROUNDUP" goes Gonzo!
